My Story, Our Story, and God's Story

Each of us carries a story—My Story—full of memories, wounds, failures, hopes, dreams and moments of grace. Our individual stories are joined together with the stories of others that become Our Story. Scripture teaches that these stories are not isolated fragments but threads woven into a much larger tapestry: God's Story—the story of God’s love unfolding through history, in our communities, and in our lives today. When we learn how these three stories connect, we begin to understand who we are, why we are here, and how God invites us into God's saving work. It can change the way we pray, the way we see others, and the way we live our lives.

My Story is where God meets me. God always begins with the personal. Scripture shows this again and again: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" (Jeremiah 1:5). “I have called you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1). Jesus looks at the disciples and says, “Follow me.” (Matthew 4:19)

My Story is the gift of a life loved by God. It begins with a simple but profound truth: God created each of us out of love and for love, and to share in God's divine life, calling us to know God, to love God, to do good according to God's will, and to some day return to God (cf. CCC, 1; YOUCAT,1). Every joy, every struggle, every turning point becomes part of God’s ongoing work of grace in us. As Scripture proclaims, “You knit me in my mother’s womb . . . I am wonderfully made” (Pslm 139:13-14). My Story is sacred because God is present in it—sustaining, calling, guiding, healing, redeeming, and transforming us.

But My Story is not the whole story. It is the doorway to Our Story, where faith becomes shared. A person who tries to live only My Story without Our Story eventually becomes isolated, discouraged, or spiritually stuck. We need each other to grow.

Faith is never a private possession; it is a shared journey. As St. Paul teaches, "We, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another" (Roman 12:5; cf. 1 Cor. 12: 27). My Story finds its meaning when it is connected to yours—when we pray together, serve together, forgive one another, and carry each other’s burdens.

Our Story is of people formed for communion. We do not walk alone. From the covenant with Israel to the birth of the Church, God forms a people who share life, faith, and mission. Jesus teaches us that we belong to one another and calls us to “Love one another as I love you” (John 15:12).

Our Story is the story of the Church—imperfect, yet continually renewed by the Holy Spirit. It is the story of families, friendships, parishes, and communities where faith is lived and passed on. We discover who we are by living in loving communion with one another and with God.

Within and beyond everything is God’s Story—the overarching story of creation, covenant, redemption, salvation, and eternal life. It is the story fulfilled in Christ, who “came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

God’s Story is not distant or abstract. It is the living narrative of God's love, as exemplified in the person of Jesus, and the Spirit’s ongoing work of salvation in the world. And astonishingly, God invites us to participate in this story—not as spectators, but as God's beloved daughters and sons.

When My Story, Our Story, and God’s Story come together, we begin to see life differently: My Story finds meaning because God is at work in it; Our Story becomes a place where God’s love is shared and made visible; and God’s Story becomes the foundation that gives direction, hope, and purpose.

This integrated vision helps us face challenges with courage, celebrate blessings with gratitude, and live each day with a deeper awareness of God’s presence. It reminds us that our lives are not random or accidental—we are part of something far greater than ourselves.

You are invited to reflect today about where do you see God’s loving presence woven into the story of your life—especially in moments you might have overlooked? How is God inviting you to contribute to "Our Story"—to the life and mission of your family, parish, or community?

Loving God,
thank you for the gift of life and for
the story you are writing within me.
Help me to see your hand in my past,
trust you in my present,
and follow you into my future.
Strengthen our community so that together
we may reflect the love of Christ and live
fully within your great Story of salvation.
May Your Holy Spirit guide our steps
and shape our hearts, today and always.
Amen.
