A Heart Ordered Towards God

At the center of every truly meaningful life is a relationship—one that shapes who we are, how we love, and the way we move through the world. Scripture reminds us again and again that the most important relationship we will ever have is the one we share with God. When that relationship is loving, intentional, and ordered toward God, everything else begins to find its proper place.

A life centered on God is not simply about believing in God; it is about allowing God's love to guide our choices, our desires, and our daily actions. Jesus tells us that love for God is shown not only in words but in the way we live: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). God’s commandments are not burdens but pathways—clear, steady markers that lead us toward the person God created us to be.

When we follow God’s will, we begin to discover a freedom that the world cannot offer. We stop chasing approval, success, or control, and instead learn to rest in God's truth that we are loved, known, and called. God’s will is not meant to restrict us; it is meant to shape us into people of compassion, integrity, goodness, courage, and joy. It is the gentle but firm invitation to become our truest and best selves.

This transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It grows through prayer, through small daily acts of faithfulness, through choosing love when it is difficult, and through trusting God when the path ahead is unclear. Over time, our hearts become more aligned with God's. Our desires become more like God. And our lives begin to reflect the beauty of a relationship rooted in divine love, as exemplified by Jesus, the human face of God for us.

When our hearts are ordered toward God, we don’t just become better versions of ourselves—we become the people God has always intended us to be.

You are invited to reflect today about what areas of your life need to be more centered on God’s love and guidance? How can you more intentionally follow God’s commandments in your daily choices and relationships?

Loving God,
draw my heart closer to Yours.
Help me to desire what You desire,
to walk in Your ways,
and to trust Your will above my own.
Shape me into the person You created me to be,
and let my life reflect Your love in all things.
Amen.
