As one recites the "Apostles' Creed, they are confronted with the "great comma," omitting any mention of Jesus's life between the phrases "born of the Virgin Mary" and "suffered under Pontius Pilate.” Rather than resting on the recitation of dogmatic "beliefs," we need to return to fostering and living “the Way” of being, thinking, and acting that Jesus—the "human face of God"—models for us.
It is a life-enhancing Way and not a life-limiting Way. It is a Way that fully recognizes, lives by, trusts in, and is centered on the underlying reality of an eternal and unlimited "Mystery" or "Presence" many call "God,” an unconditionally loving, good, truthful, creative, generative, sustaining, and merciful Creator of all creation, whose life-force (“Spirit”) indwells and empowers all of creation, especially those who humbly surrender themselves to the promptings of this Spirit, and who seek to live their lives as modeled by Jesus.
It is a Way that will lead you to experience God's presence and gifts of love, truth, goodness, beauty, gratitude, joy, peace, justice, freedom, wisdom, counsel, fortitude, piety, non-violence, friendship, kindness, gentleness, self-control, welcoming, compassion, forgiveness, mercy, healing, understanding, support, nurturing, selfless service to others, and ultimately eternal salvation.
It is a Way that calls for the provision of meaningful and relevant practices, rituals, and teachings that encourage, foster, nourish, and assist you in becoming more consciously aware of God's presence in your life, in the lives of others, and throughout all of creation, in continually being open to the Spirit in guiding you towards Ultimate “truth” and "goodness," and in living the “the Way” of Jesus the Christ— the Way of love—both individually, in communion with others, and with all of creation.
