Fourth Sunday in Advent
In the Gospel reading today for the Fourth Sunday of Advent, we hear about the coming birth of Jesus, our Savior, from Joseph's perspective. We light the last violet candle to mark the final week of prayer and penance, as we begin to focus on the Mystery of the Incarnation, of Emmanuel—"God is with us." It is traditionally called the "Angel's" candle that symbolizes peace, and reminding us of the message of the angels at Jesus's birth, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14).
Since at least the eighth century, the Church has been singing the "O Antiphons* during Advent." These are the antiphons that accompany the Magnificat Canticle of Evening Prayer from December 17–23.

Commentary on the Daily Readings from Living Space
Reflect on the following excerpt from today's Gospel reading, when the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and said:
"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus [meaning "God saves"], because he will save his people from their sins."" (Matthew 11:3)
What salvation do you desire from Christ in your life?
